Cameras: a false sense of security

The lesson to be learned from the London riots is: No matter how many cameras you have watching an area, they will not prevent crime.

Currently, London has more cameras per square mile than any other city in the world.  The list of American cities racing to follow in those footsteps is growing every day. It is important to remember that cameras did not stop the transit bombings, the riots, nor reduce petty street crimes.

At best they will document what happened; when it is already too late to help.

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase: when seconds count, the police are just minutes away!
